We all know about recycling paper and plastic. But we do not often think about recycling cloth and rags. We recycle thousands of tons of cloth and rags and turn it into a commercially viable product. We do this by buying waste rags/clothing from charities and op shops. Otherwise these materials would end up in landfill costing these organizations a lot of money in rubbish removals.
Here is an overview of what happens to the thousands of tons of used clothing that is in circulation in our market place. Many people donate their unwanted goods to various charities and op shops. These organizations have a sophisticated sorting process where everything is sorted into 3 categories. The first grade is goods that can be used by Australians in need and also sold in second hand shops. The second grade is goods that can be exported to third world countries. And finally the third grade is the Rag material which is sold to us.
We then have a process of removing unwanted objects from these rags such as buttons, zips and studs. The cloth rags are also sorted into various styles. There many different types of rags such as coloured singlet, windcheater, toweling, flannel, white rags just to name a few. The rag cloths are then cut into smaller pieces and packaged into 10kg, and 20kg compressed bags. Through our extensive networking we are able to deliver anywhere in Australia.
This is the process of recycling Rag cloth. So it is important to continue to donate your unwanted clothing to charities because nothing is wasted and it all goes to good use and helps charities. It is also important to use recycled rags for cleaning purposes. Otherwise using commercially produced wipes is just dumping more into landfill.
